New Federal Funding to Strengthen Teaching and Research in Canadian Universities
On Friday, April 19, McMaster University President Dr. David Farrar, Vice President (Research) Dr. Andy Knights, and Vice-Provost (International) Dr. Bonny Ibhawoh welcomed the Minister of Crown-Indigenous Relations, the Hon. Gary Anandasangaree and Minister of International Development, the Hon. Ahmed Hussen to McMaster University for a budget announcement. During the visit, the ministers announced new funding for researchers and students in post-graduate programs, to be administered by Canada’s three primary granting agencies: the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC), the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC), and the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR).
The new funding “signals Canada’s continued commitment to international cooperation and development,” said Dr. Ibhawoh in a LinkedIn post, where he also noted that it will strengthen teaching and research in Canadian universities.
