The "Berks" is the largest conference in the world dealing with women's history. In 2014, it was held in Canada for the first time. Organizers emphasized the importance of studying women's history globally, including the Caribbean and Latin America. Along with a colleague from York University, I co-chaired the Caribbean and Latin America subcommittee and helped organize 17 panels that addressed diverse topics in women's history in this part of the world. By bringing women together from throughout the hemisphere, we facilitated scholarly exchanges.
Impact
The panels we organized brought women together from throughout the hemisphere, facilitating scholarly exchanges and expanding our knowledge of women's history globally. Some of the panels resulted in publications and other kinds of scholarly collaboration.
Student Experience
The Caribbean and Latin American panels provided opportunities for student involvement. In particular, PhD students gave papers and benefited from contact with senior scholars in the field.
