As a member of a five person medical team seconded by the Canadian federal government from the Canadian Red Cross I helped develop a humane, effective and efficient medical screening process on site in Aman Jordan, for refugees wishing to come to Canada. This included some of the initial medical assessments to kick start the process and gain a better understanding of how to streamline it, while being culturally sensitive and respectful to all involved.
Impact
Our work allowed the rapid movement of a large number of Syrian refugees to Canada. We were also able to provide feedback to the International Organization for Migration to improve their methods for health screening large populations in this unique situation. Finally our own understanding of the health situation of refugees was enhanced.
