The two institutions have been exploring areas of mutual interest for 4 years, including collaborative research, training of Emirati medical residents, conducting courses for health professionals, knowledge exchange relating to the innovative use of telemedicine, and establishing simulation centres. First area of collaboration will include a 2-week program in pain medicine at McMaster. Following there will be approximately 5 resident/fellow positions per year. Additional areas of interest in nursing and paramedical are being explored.
Impact
Students have the opportunity to learn from colleagues from UAE in Canada and vice-versa on topics such as comparison of health systems, cultural approaches to care, basic research methods, and an overview of global health.
Student Experience
Undergraduate medical students and post-graduate medical students will have the opportunity for collaborative learning opportunities, cultural intelligence/ sensitivity and potential exchange opportunities on case-by-case basis.
