The Networked Imagination Laboratory is a space devoted 24/7 to live coding and network music, or in other words, to music that is made collaboratively and internationally using algorithms, computer networking, and advanced display and sound projection technologies.
Impact
In addition to supporting the direct creation of software and practices oriented to live coding, network music, and collaboration more generally, the Networked Imagination Laboratory is an active environment for knowledge translation in these areas, hosting reading groups, performances, and (soon) international workshops, summer schools and conferences.
Student Experience
Students enter the Networked Imagination Laboratory as members of the resident Cybernetic Orchestra, as research assistants working on software development and networked collaboration projects, and as audience members. Graduate research assistants from the MA in Communication and New Media, and the PhD in Communication, New Media and Cultural Studies, are particularly commonly found in the lab.
