Since 2013, this annual two-day conference has grown from a small local meeting to 200 participants drawing educators, cognitive scientists and policy makers from across Canada, the US and internationally to explore how cognitive science can be applied to educational policy and instructional design. At the 2017 meeting, participants from 8 different countries were represented, positioning McMaster University as an international hub for advanced pedagogy research.
Impact
In 5 years, the symposium has developed a reputation as the premier meeting for connecting research from cognitive science to instructional design end educational policy. The supporting website http://edcog.ca has expanded to become a year-round destination with archived videos of conference presentations.
Student Experience
The symposium offers a unique opportunity for undergrads, grads and faculty members at McMaster University to connect with internationally recognized researchers connecting cognitive science and education research. Over the years, several active and ongoing collaborations have emerged including opportunities for students from my own lab. Symposium participants have been impressed with our campus research resources available for education research including the state-of-the-art LIVE Lab facility http://livelab.mcmaster.ca
