For the last twenty years, the University of Catania has hosted PRAGMATIC, a summer workshop for graduate students in the area of commutative algebra and algebraic geometry. This past year (2017), my co-authors and I were invited to run this year's workshop. The theme of the workshop was powers of ideals and their properties. At the end of the workshop, we decided that it would be useful to use our lecture notes as the basis for an introductory book on the topic. We are currently in the process of writing up the book.
Impact
We expect our lecture notes will be useful to new graduate students and to those who are interested in questions about powers of ideals.
Student Experience
These lecture notes formed the basis of a graduate workshop on recent trends in commutative algebra and algebraic geometry. The notes allowed students to learn about the current state of the field.
