The International Network on Critical Gerontology (INCG) is a virtual network/blog in the field of aging studies and social gerontology. The project provides a site where leading scholars and graduate students can post short blog entries on contemporary issues, describe their research, and/or draw attention to recent publications, or events. Our project fosters connections between research, theoretical/conceptual debates and academic studies of aging; forges inter-disciplinary exchange and discussion; and helps to promote ideas for social change. Membership is open.
Impact
INCG brings together international scholars and graduate students interested in critical approaches to the study of aging and late life. Based at McMaster University in Canada, this virtual network links international scholars from various disciplinary perspectives in the humanities and social sciences. It provides a forum to consider contemporary issues in social/cultural gerontology, reflect on theoretical and conceptual questions in the field, and discuss new insights and developments.
Student Experience
The site is facilitated and moderated by Amanda Grenier with the assistance of Stephanie Hatzifilalithis, PhD Student and member of the Gilbrea Student Group. Canadian and International students subscribe to, read, and author INCG posts. Involvement of students in this network helps increase their understanding of critical approaches to aging and late life as well as provides a virtual space where they can contribute to discussions with their peers and senior scholars from around the world.
