Impact
The work of the Cold Region Environments Commission sought to realize the vision of Dr. Anne Buttimer (1937 - 2017) first female President of the International Geographical Union (IGU) under whose leadership the Commission was created in 2004, by bring physical and human sciences into dialogue, with special reference to conditions in the changing polar regions and high altitudes. The Commission held numerous sessions at international conferences and encouraged a generation of emerging scholars.

Students participated in international conferences and contributed to research papers. Community members also co-authored and co-presented.
