Ongoing provision of dialysis. Now at 100 chronic hemodialysis patients with about 30 hemodialysis stations. Nephrologist from McMaster attends and sees all patients in person every 2-3 months. Most referrals of ESRD patients from Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation. We are by far the largest dialysis unit in Guyana, dialyzing as many patients as all the rest combined, and the only one to provide chronic (beyond 13 weeks) dialysis regardless of ability to pay.
Impact
Nephrology fellows and nursing and ultrasound staff have also attended. The partnership is with the Doobay Renal Centre, a charitable concern founded by a retired Guyanese vascular surgeon who practiced in Hamilton for decades- Dr. B. Doobay. It is a registered charity in Guyana with a Board, and an MOU with the Government.
Student Experience
