McMaster is granted organizational accreditation for the United Nation’s 4th International Conference on Financing for Development Conference in Sevilla, Spain
McMaster University has been granted an organizational accreditation to attend The Fourth International Conference on Financing for Development Conference to be held in Sevilla, Spain between 30 June-2 July 2025. This conference aims to address new and emerging issues, and the urgent need to fully implement the Sustainable Development Goals, and support reform of the international financial architecture. Additionally, it will assess the progress made in the implementation of the Monterrey Consensus, the Doha Declaration and the Addis Ababa Action agenda.
United Nations Member States have given the FfD4 Conference an ambitious mandate to address the global crisis in financing for sustainable development, recognizing “the urgent need to accelerate the implementation of the 2030 Agenda and the achievement of the SDGs and to support reform of the international financial architecture.”
Having secured UN accreditation status for McMaster University faculty to attend FfD4 in Sevilla, Dr. Thomas Marois, Professor of Political Economy and Canada Research Chair in Public Banking, will be advancing a key pillar of financial reform. Specifically, Marois, together with civil society organizations, argues that UN Member States should call on their public national development banks and multilateral development banks to foster a global public development bank ecosystem grounded in accountable public-public collaboration. Why? Because only an intentional global PDB ecosystem can provide the climate financing at the pace, scale, and on the terms needed to achieve global green transitions that are socially just transitions. Registration for other representatives will open closer to the event dates.
The OIA would love to hear from faculty members who are planning to attend this conference. Please let email us on oia@mcmaster.ca.
