In attendance was Dr. Sulaiman Shahabuddin, President & Vice-Chancellor; Dr. Tania Bubela, Provost and Vice-President; Academic; Dr. Salim Virani, Vice-President, Research; Ms. Zahra Somani, Chief Advancement Officer; and Ms. Fareena Feroze, Director, Global Engagement Office. They met with McMaster President & Vice-Chancellor, Dr. David Farrar and Provost & Vice-President (Academic), Susan Tighe among other senior leadership at McMaster.
Both sides discussed the long-standing relationship between the institutions and discussed numerous areas for expanding upon current connections and building new collaborations based on the strategic discussions and MOU which was signed during the previous visit in May 2024.
McMaster embraced the opportunity to build upon the lengthy history of collaboration with our Faculty of Health Sciences, particularly our School of Nursing, which had a crucial role in establishing AKU’s School of Nursing in 1980, and our Global Health programme which has worked with AKU on numerous collaborations.
Both universities also see great potential for further collaboration in the areas of oncology and surgery as well as further study and research activities related to the themes of planetary health and environmental sciences. Within these areas, opportunities for greater faculty and student mobility and funding for capacity building projects in health systems and environmental sciences education will also be explored.
