McMaster University Champions Global Competencies at U21 Meeting in Shanghai
McMaster University participated at the recent Universitas 21 (U21) Global Education and Senior Leaders Meeting held in Shanghai, China, from October 19 to 26, where global academic leaders gathered under the theme: “Preparing Students for a Global Future: Global Competencies, Opportunities, and Learning Across the Campus.”
With representation from 32 universities across 20 countries, the U21 meeting served as a platform for thought leaders to explore pressing topics such as “AI in Teaching and Learning” and “Transforming Global Education through the UN Sustainable Development Goals.”
McMaster’s Vice-Provost for International Affairs, Dr. Bonny Ibhawoh, led a panel discussing “External Challenges Facing Universities and Their Impact on Internationalisation Agendas.” Dr. Ibhawoh’s insights sparked an exchange on how institutions can adapt to geopolitical shifts while strengthening internationalization efforts and supporting diverse student needs.
In another session, May Zhai, Educational Program Manager from McMaster’s Office of International Affairs, participated in discussions on student mobility and represented McMaster at the U21 recruitment fair, showcasing the university’s global outlook to prospective students and international partners.
The U21 Global Education and Senior Leaders Meeting is a gathering that unites U21 member institutions, fostering collaboration among Senior Leaders, Education Officers, Academic Developers, and Mobility and Employability experts. Together, they strategize on innovative solutions to enhance global learning and student experiences, reinforcing U21’s commitment to advancing global education and preparing students for a rapidly evolving world.
