i. Develop a comprehensive understanding of the social, political, economic and social protection factors that "push" young people to leave their countries, and "pull" them to Canada, especially when not accompanied by one or both parents
Impact
-Increased knowledge of factors which support or hinder the protection of child and youth rights in the Caribbean, Central America and the diaspora populations in Canada. -Contribute to the creation of evidence-based policies and institutional practices that respond to Unaccompanied Minors and youth in the three regions. -Train students from the three regions in qualitative, quantitative and mixed methodologies.
Student Experience
Students undergraduate and graduate are learning about the inner-workings of international research. This includes literature reviews, elaboration of ethics protocols and research designs; community engagement regarding recruitment; interviewing, data collection and analysis, as well as the writing of reports, development of manuscripts and peer review conference presentations
