We attempt to disentangle the creativity and implementation stages of the innovation process in order to get a better understanding of how team structure antecedents (e.g., functional, gender heterogeneity) influence a team's innovation performance.
Impact
The project can inform both research and practice. It can inform research by explaining the inconclusive relation between team structure and innovation performance defined broadly. It can inform practice by demonstrating that effective management of team structure is contingent on innovation stage.
Student Experience
This project has provided the foundation to employee one McMaster masters level research assistant and one Queen’s University undergraduate level research assistant. It has helped these students develop a better understanding of innovation and the processes constituent stages.
