The Honours Integrated Science Program at McMaster and the Natural Science Programme at the University of Leicester, UK, are both wide-ranging, innovative science degree programs. By sharing pedagogical experiences and engaging in pedagogical research projects, instructors in both programs benefit from a broader range of experiences and students get to know their trans-Atlantic counterparts, giving us all a more global viewpoint on science education.
Impact
As an example of one result from this collaboration, McMaster iSci students can have the experience of submitting their work for peer review and publication in the Leicester students' undergraduate journal. For instructors, we have the opportunity of developing our skills in (for example) teaching via videoconference.
Student Experience
This collaboration has allowed for richer student experiences (such as lectures with experts from the partner institution), pedogogical forums for students to discuss their education with students from another program, and a student exchange program that is supportive (students have “met” thier new cohort a few times before arriving in their host institution).
