McMaster’s OIA speaks about the UN’S SDGs in the Child Health Specialization of the Honour Health Sciences Program
Thank you to Michael Wong, Margaret Secord, Nevart Terzian, and Elyse Rosa for inviting the OIA to speak on the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals to their fourth-year course in the Child Health Specialization of the Honour Health Sciences (BHSc) Program.
Dr. Amira El Masri, Director of the OIA, provided a general overview of the SDGs, their history, recent achievements and challenges, and next steps. Dr. El Masri emphasized the critical role of global universities, like McMaster, play in advancing the SDGs. She highlighted McMaster’s commitment to sustainability and social responsibility, showcasing various initiatives that align with these global objectives.
The session challenged students to think of ways their education can contribute to creating a more sustainable future. The session sparked lively discussions and prompted great questions from students encouraging deeper engagement with sustainability issues. With this session as a starting point, students are now challenged to develop a grant proposal and pitch to address an SDG-related problem within the context of child health and development.
Thank you to the Child Health Specialization team for facilitating this important dialogue.
