Senior leadership and researchers from McMaster University and the University of Oulu
On October 10, 2025, McMaster University welcomed a distinguished delegation from the University of Oulu, Finland, for a full day of discussions focused on identifying potential areas for strategic collaboration in education, research, and innovation.
Led by Professor Arto Maaninen, Rector of the University of Oulu, the delegation included senior academic leaders and researchers representing a wide range of disciplines—from health technologies and Arctic ecosystems to sustainable metallurgy and intelligent systems. The visit provided a valuable opportunity for both institutions to exchange perspectives and explore shared priorities.
The day commenced with a University Leadership Roundtable, during which McMaster’s senior leadership team welcomed the delegation and presented the university’s strategic vision. The dialogue focused on institutional strengths, global engagement, and the potential for future collaboration.

These sessions brought together leading researchers from both universities to share insights, showcase current initiatives, and identify promising directions for collaboration. Additional meetings with the Student Success Centre and the MacPherson Institute offered opportunities to discuss student mobility, academic support, and pedagogical innovation.
The visit paved the way for future collaboration between McMaster University and the University of Oulu. Both institutions expressed a strong interest in continuing the dialogue and building a partnership that addresses global challenges through interdisciplinary research and education.
