McMaster Welcomes Japanese Ambassador for Visit to Automotive Resource Centre

On April 16th, McMaster University had the honour of welcoming His Excellency Kanji Yamanouchi, Japan’s Ambassador to Canada, along with Mr. Ryutaro Ishii, Counsellor at the Embassy of Japan, and Mr. Yasutsugu Tamura, First Secretary for Education, Science, Technology, and Innovation.
The delegation visited the McMaster Automotive Resource Centre (MARC)—a key hub within the McMaster Innovation Park (MIP) that supports business startups, collaborative research, and the commercialization of cutting-edge technologies.
During the visit, Ambassador Yamanouchi met with McMaster President Dr. David Farrar and Dr. Ali Emadi, Canada Excellence Research Chair Laureate and a globally recognized leader in automotive innovation. Dr. Emadi led the group on a tour of MARC, highlighting McMaster’s deep research expertise in sustainable automotive technologies and its strong partnerships with Japanese automotive companies.

Dr. Emadi also shared reflections on his recent visit to Japan and ongoing collaborations that demonstrate McMaster’s commitment to advancing global research and innovation in the automotive sector.
This visit underscored the growing relationship between McMaster and Japanese partners, showcasing how academic and industry collaboration can drive innovation and global impact. Earlier this month, McMaster’s Vice-President (Operations and Finance) Saher Fazilat, visited Japan as part of a Canadian university vice presidents’ delegation.
