McMaster University Welcomes Representatives from the International Association of Universities and Mohawk College

On June 24, 2026, McMaster University’s Office of International Affairs welcomed representatives from the International Association of Universities (IAU) and Mohawk College for a collaborative discussion on sustainability and international engagement.

As a member of the International Association of Universities, McMaster is part of a global network of higher education institutions committed to advancing international collaboration, knowledge exchange, and sustainable development. The visit provided an opportunity to strengthen these connections while exploring shared priorities and emerging initiatives.

The meeting provided an opportunity to learn about the IAU’s global work in advancing higher education and sustainable development, including an overview of the Responsible Futures Programme. Sonya Peres, Manager of Education for the Responsible Futures Programme at the IAU, shared how the initiative supports institutions in embedding the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) into teaching, learning, and campus culture through student engagement and institutional collaboration. Allison Maxted of Mohawk College shared Mohawk’s experience in implementing the Responsible Future Program.

The Office of International Affairs team highlighted McMaster’s sustainability and internationalization efforts, showcasing initiatives across research, teaching, student initiatives, campus operations, and global partnerships. The discussion emphasized the importance of collaboration, knowledge sharing, and institutional and global partnerships in advancing sustainability goals.

The visit fostered meaningful dialogue, strengthened relationships between partner institutions, and reinforced a shared commitment to advancing sustainability through collaboration, innovation, and international engagement.
