McMaster Participates in the Association of Commonwealth Universities Congress 2025 in Nairobi, Kenya

For three days, attendees contributed to conversations on the most compelling themes in higher education, including universities’ economic and social value, artificial intelligence, innovation and work, sustainability, and the geopolitical role of the Commonwealth. In addition, keynote speakers engaged in moderated roundtables and panel sessions exploring the following issues:
- The future of higher education: global trends, artificial intelligence, and the radical shifts universities must prepare for.
- Economic impact and investment: how universities can demonstrate value and secure sustainable funding.
- Sustainability beyond 2030: the role of universities as changemakers for a resilient and equitable future.
- Skills for the future workforce: preparing graduates for disruption, renewal, and national development.
Dr. Honig, as one of the keynote speakers, spoke about the future of work in Commonwealth Universities, and the importance of adapting work demands not just to degrees – but to adaptively support lifelong learning regarding creativity and digital fluency. He highlighted the role of AI in transforming multiple sectors, as well as the importance of experience based learning to tackle authentic problems and to connect students to their communities.
