McMaster Reinforces Commitment to Global Learning at IYIP Meeting

In May, stakeholders from across Canada gathered for the International Youth Internship Program (IYIP) Partners Meeting, hosted by Global Affairs Canada. McMaster University participated actively in the meeting, contributing to discussions on youth development, international collaboration, and workforce readiness.
As a key partner in the IYIP program, McMaster University shared insights into its internship structure, recruitment strategies, pre-departure training, and reintegration support for its IYIP, in partnership with Empowerment Squared. McMaster’s investment and support for the IYIP involvement underscored its commitment to global education and professional development, ensuring young Canadians gain valuable international work experience.
During the meeting, McMaster’s participation also highlighted its collaborative approach in working with international partners, reinforcing the importance of intercultural exchange and capacity-building initiatives.
Key themes from the event included enhancing data collection to strengthen program evaluation and providing mental health support for interns before, during, and after placements, cultural collaboration with host partners worldwide, Innovative approaches to pre-departure training, and intern follow-up strategies.
McMaster University’s engagement in the meeting reinforced its dedication to empowering young professionals, fostering international partnerships, and shaping globally competent leaders. The discussions and shared insights will help refine IYIP’s impact, ensuring that Canadian interns continue to thrive in global placements.
Funded by Global Affairs Canada, the IYIP aims to provide young Canadians with invaluable international development experience while contributing to meaningful community projects. The internship is part of a larger $4.9M investment that will run until 2028, offering participants a unique opportunity to develop professional skills and make a global impact.
