McMaster Faculty, Departments & Research Centers

McMaster faculty, departments and research centers who are connected to and interested in employing forcibly displaced scholars and researchers are invited to apply for SARP funding.

Submitted application forms will be reviewed on a continual basis throughout the 2022-23 calendar year. Outcomes of proposal funding will be communicated when a decision has been made.

Proposals should request one-time funding for a maximum of 12 months, with the understanding that the unit will absorb any ongoing costs beyond that time.

Who reviews and decides upon applications for SARP funding?

  • The SARP adjudication committee reviews applications for SARP funding.
  • The adjudication committee will be chaired by the Vice-Provost (International Affairs) and consist of three Associate Deans of Research, and one faculty member from the Committee on Students and Scholars in Crisis (CSSC). Non-voting consultants include Barbara Eftekhari (Faculty Relations), Dave Reinhardt (Research Finance), Tania Hakim (VPIA Office).
  • The Provost is responsible for approving all requests, in consultation with the SARP Adjudication Committee, and considering the following principles and priorities:
    • The availability of funds from the allocation
    • Relevant and most pressing displacement situations
    • Focus on marginalized individuals and other identity markers
    • Alignment with institutional and unit-level strategic priorities
    • Equitable allocation of funds across units
  • The adjudication committee will provide Provost Council with an update on the use of the fund once per term. If this structure and process remain past the pilot year 2022, the Advisory Group deans will rotate on an annual basis.
