This randomized controlled trial aims to validate a clinical prediction rule develop to guide clinical decision making on the decision of selecting the most appropriate treatment for an individual patient. Identifying subgroups of patients is an important research priority in the field of low back pain and this clinical prediction rule was the first to be able to confirm the hypothesis that if patients are better matched to specific exercise therapies, there is a clinical significant improvement in patients outcomes.
Impact
The results of this study may provide clinicians with a tool to guide clinical practice and clinical decision making. With back pain being on the top 10 list of conditions seen by a family doctors and emergency room physicians, a program that can significantly increase treatment effects and decrease the burden of low back pain would have a significant impact for patients and society.
