We are investigating the ecology and evolution of influenza viruses by examining historical and current morbidity and mortality data, and developing and fitting a variety of mechanistic mathematical models to these data.
Impact
Influenza is a major health concern worldwide, with of order 500,000 deaths occurring annually. Statistical descriptions of past patterns and improvements in forecasting through mechanistic mathematical models will contribute to global efforts to reduce the public health impacts and economic costs of influenza epidemics.
Student Experience
Students are exposed the global significance of projects related to influenza dynamics.
