We are examining how bar-headed geese can fly at extremely high altitudes, where the air is very thin and contains very little oxygen, during their migration across the Himalayas from physiological, biomechanical, behavioural, and ecological perspectives. The project involves extensive field work in Mongolia, and assistance from local conservation organizations.
Impact
1. Fundamental science discovery. 2. Maintaining international collaborations.
Student Experience
My PhD student Oliver Wearing will be carrying out some data analysis for this project as part of his PhD thesis, and may in doing so visit collaborators in the UK.
