Both the health care context and the content of work interact to affect the work attitudes and behaviors of nurses and influence their stress and burnout. Implications for individual and organizational well-being are investigated. We explore the roles of professional commonalities and cultural uniqueness on the mental health of nurses.
Impact
Findings help in evidence-based work design in hospitals and the job design of nurses. As an ongoing program of research, seven related articles have been published from 2012 through 2017 with partnership and co-authorship across the globe (Argentina, Canada, China, Saudi Arabia, USA).
Student Experience
This project started before I had arrived at McMaster. In fact, I transferred my SSHRC grant as PI to McMaster when I arrived here. I had supported all my doctoral students through grants for this program of research.
