Hyperspectral imaging for quantification of radiation induced skin erythema

Current radiation therapy treatment does not consider individual patient's response to radiation. We developed a hyperspectral imaging method to quantify radiation induced skin erythema. The goal is to use such quantification to fine tune each patient's radiation treatment plan for more precise treatment as well as reduced side effects.

Impact

A conference paper and three manuscripts in preparation. HQP trained: PhD (2), MSc (1), Undergrad (3), PDF (2) A prototype high efficiency Hyperspectral imager that can potentially be commercialized.

Student Experience

1 PhD student and a PDF each spent 3 months in France to develop customized image processing and analysis algorithm. A MSc student presented the results at an international medical imaging conference.
