This one-day mini-conference on Electoral Malpractice in East and Southeast Asia allows us to meet and discuss the gaps, methodological and empirical challenges in studying the varied types and effects of electoral malpractice in 13 Asian countries (Japan, SKorea, Taiwan, Mongolia, HK, Myanmar, Cambodia, Indonesia, S'pore, Malaysia, Thailand, Philippines & Vietnam).
Impact
Our research objectives are: 1. to conduct a preliminary study on the capacity of electoral management bodies and assess the quality of elections in 13 countries using mixed research methods; 2. for each country expert to assess the dominant for 2. for each country expert to assess the dominant forms of electoral malpractice or reforms in the recent elections in the selected country; 3. to develop research networks to strengthen electoral integrity in Asia and publish an edited book.
Student Experience
3 undergraduates were hired as research assistants in this project.
