The two day workshop engages with the tension between a trend towards the construction of Fortress North America by means of state-led collaboration on border control and migration management policies, and resistance to these borders evident in particular through the activism and the everyday lived realities of indigenous and migrant communities of the region.

The workshop featured one public keynote lecture and a documentary film screening that was also open to the public. A selection of papers from the workshop are being published in a special journal issue.
